It’s been awhile, and we made it through the Winter here in South-Central Texas!
I’m excited to announce that big beekeeping opportunities have started to show themselves! I’ve been hard at work learning as much as possible, in order to make the most of these prospects.
Thus-far, Royal Jelly Bee Co. has been a creative project with a group of friends who have enabled me to pursue beekeeping aspirations. Though this network of support this website has been conceived, a social media following has grown, organically, and even through the still of winter much ground has been covered!
A mentor of mine contacted me about 2 weeks ago and is looking to take a step back from beekeeping, and wants to pass his network of bee-yard’s down to someone who will do good work with them. As a small-time hobbyist I’m taken aback, and humbled by his offer.
To put Royal Jelly Bee Co. into scale, we have one Apiary plot, with interested neighbors seeking hives on their property too, and we currently have 1 double, grown from a Nuc arriving mid-Summer. The goal on the original plot, this Spring, is 6 colony in place, with room for 10~12.
The network of yard being proposed is 120 colony over multiple locations. So it’s a huge undertaking, but also a wonderful opportunity, the missing ingredient in a sense. With the amazing benefit of veteran insight, use of tools with much less upfront cost to expand, access various locations providing some flexibility when needing to relocate hives, and possibly the most exciting will be the ability to meet other beekeepers, landowners, and so many beautiful plots!
I’m very excited to build the business up from here, and be able to pursue this dream, it’s quite the magical opportunity, and a huge responsibility. Yet at a size that is still palatable, and opportune, to working the business up to scale.
As a hobbyist beekeeper operating in a sedan, this opportunity isn’t very possible, we’ve invested in a truck, also to the utility of our personal lives, but primarily as an necessity to care for 120+ hives. I think that this couldn’t be happening at a more perfect time, and can’t wait to meet all 7 million honey bee. I’m extremely lucky in having access to a variety of materials, and my local beekeeping organizations are great people!
My immediate goals are officiating business, implementing management strategies, and producing a circulation of funds to grow the business. I’m currently focusing on learning the best management strategies when dealing larger numbers of hive to ensure I can provide proper care and the best advantage to our bees.
Change is in the air! I’m so excited to see where this year will take Royal Jelly Bee Company, so much has happened in less than a year, and the sky seems to bee the limit!
Thanks for reading!
